If you see the message "Activation key has already been used on this instance" when entering your n8n licence key, don't worry — this isn't an error. It simply means your licence has already been successfully applied to your Awesomate instance.
Why this message appears
When n8n sends you your Community Edition licence key by email, the email contains a one-click activation link. Clicking that link automatically applies the licence to your instance.
If you then try to enter the same key manually on the licence activation screen, n8n will reject it — not because anything is wrong, but because the key has already been consumed by your instance.
In short: the message confirms your licence is already active.
How to verify your licence is active
You can confirm your Community Edition licence is registered by checking your Usage and Plan settings:
- Log in to your Awesomate instance.
- Navigate to Settings → Usage and Plan, or go directly to:
https://[your-subdomain].awesomate.io/settings/usage - Look for the text "You're on the Community Edition" along with the status Registered.
If you see both, your licence is fully provisioned and no further action is needed.
What to do if the licence isn't showing as registered
If the Usage and Plan page does not show "Community Edition" with a "Registered" status, please:
- Check your inbox (and spam folder) for the original licence email from n8n and click the activation link.
- Refresh the Usage and Plan page after clicking the link.
- If it still doesn't register, contact the Awesomate support team so we can help you get it sorted.
Summary
The "Activation key has already been used on this instance" message is a confirmation, not a failure. Your licence is most likely already active — just head to Settings → Usage and Plan to verify.
